THE PHILIPPINES AND BAHRAIN

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Philippines and Bahrain maintained strong and friendly relations that are deeply rooted in their shared objectives of peace and prosperity.

Exchanges of official visits of high-level officials, including the heads of states, of both countries have contributed to strengthening political, economic and trade ties.

In recent years, trade in goods and services between the Philippines and Bahrain have been steadily increasing. Bahrain is among the top 100 destinations of the Philippines’ consumer manufactures, food, and industrial manufactures. The Philippines, meanwhile, source its aluminum and other base metal ores and concentrates requirements from Bahrain.

The Philippines is aiming to increase trade with Bahrain with the creation of the Philippines-Bahrain Business Council. Based in Manama, and under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy, the business council is intensifying efforts to bring in more fresh Philippine tropical fruits, e.g. mangoes - and seafood into the Kingdom.

In 2007, Bahrain and the Philippines entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on Health Services Cooperation that would help build capacities of both countries in the medical and allied fields.

Filipinos in Bahrain

There are an estimated 30,000 Filipinos working and living in Bahrain. Contrary to public perception, majority of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom are in the medical, sales, finance and hospitality sectors.

Perhaps, due to the Philippine Government’s new policy on the overseas deployment of household service workers, the number of domestic servants has been maintained at a minimum.

Filipino Community Organization
There are 18 Filipino community organizations under the umbrella of the Filipino Club Bahrain.  Another three associations are independently-run.
